LED's

The below knowledge is given as it applies to the use of LED lamps in Idaho Wood Lighting fixtures.

Idaho Wood Lighting recognizes that LED’s are the wave of the future. Note that when you read about LED’s they are referring to Solid State Lighting(SSL). The price of LED lamps has been very high. There are many new manufacturers in the game now and more extensive use is making the prices more reasonable.

Individual LED lamps that have a medium base to be used in most fixtures can cost from $18. to $30. each. The high cost is offset by the long life and the lower equivalent wattage use. A 7 watt LED will give the equivalent of a 60 watt incandescent lamp. The long life (25,000 to 35,000 hours) of the LED lamps more than make up for the high initial cost. Also when taking into consideration the cost of lamp change there is additional savings. Without going into a long winded ciphering proof the savings will be enormous. That is why SSL(LED’s) are the wave of the future of providing light.

The downside of the LED lamps is that they are very directional in the light beam (narrow light beam) that they throw. Basically it is just out the front of the lamp. The LED lamps are somewhat heat sensitive and lose their long life if there is a heat build up. That is why the LED medium base lamps have heat dispersion aluminum as part of the lamp.

We will develop fixtures that make good use of the LED lamps. Many of our current fixtures readily adapt to LED lamp usage. Those current fixtures that are not designed to use the directional light properly may be adaptable with reflectors. You can consult with us on the proper usage of LED lamps in each of our individual fixtures.

LED7 – 7 watts(equivalent of 60 watts incandescent) medium base - $21.
